Saw III DVD is tops in sales

posted February 2, 2007

Lionsgate put out a press release declaring that the Saw III DVD was not only the #1 DVD of last week in sales, but that it is now the best selling Blu-ray DVD ever, to date (since Blu-ray’s only been around for a few months, take that as you will :) ). Click here to read the press release.

These sales figures may give Lionsgate and Twisted Pictures a bit of a push to get Saw IV going into production; as IGN had said, the movie’s scheduled for this Halloween, and there are still no official cast, crew, or even a script. Last I heard filming is supposed to begin in Canada in March, which is now less than 4 weeks away.

This may also further cement a longer run in the Saw franchise; Saw V has already been announced, and rumors have already begun going around about a Saw VI; I’d say come the end of filming on Saw IV or when it opens, Saw VI may be officially announced!

Major plot rumor updates

posted February 1, 2007

This “Andrew” character that If It’s Movies has been giving “inside info” to is at it again, and I’m still not 100% sure this guy’s legit.

First he reports that he had a face-to-face with none other than Ja Rule himself, who gave just a few details about his involvement with the movie. How “Andrew” managed to line up an interview so quickly with a big name like Ja Rule is anyone’s guess. Supposedly Ja Rule will be the first on-screen victim, dying during the opening credits. No details were given as to the trap itself, other than his tongue will be removed.

Second up, “Andrew” reports that he’s already lined up another interview with actress Fanshen Cox, whom he claims will be playing a detective alongside Saw III’s “Detective Hoffman” (why quotes? I’ll get to that in a minute). He claims that Cox told him over the phone that her character was in the first draft of SAW III, but written out later.

Again, my beef is that this “Andrew”, who won’t reveal how he’s finding out all this stuff, is so conveniently (and quickly) landing interviews with what are supposed to be big players in the movie. What really set up a red flag for me was when he mentioned “Detective Hoffman”; Hoffman was NOT a detective, he was a forensic examiner… which further leads me to believe this guy’s full of crap!

IGN echoes latest rumors

This doesn’t really prove anything but I still think it’s interesting that a big site like IGN is passing on the rumor I previously posted that Ja Rule has been cast for SAW IV. But they’ve also added another rumor I haven’t heard yet (although not all that surprising), that Angus Macfayden’s Jeff will be in the movie as well; IGN was quick to add that there was no word on whether Macfayden himself would play Jeff.
