Saw 4 leaves more questions than answers ??

posted October 28, 2007

I must admit I haven’t actually been to see saw 4 yet. I’ve been reading the comments in the saw 4 out now post with anticipated envy but have been a little ‘miffed’ by them.

The reviews from around the web seemed to be a little mixed aswell. It seems that one thing people do agree on however is that the traps and creativity is still as brilliant as ever just the plotline leaves a little to be desired when it comes to tying up loose ends.

As I haven’t been to see the film yet I can’t really comment from any experience but as soon as I do you’ll know about it !!

  1. I watched Saw IV on Saturday Oct 27th and to me it is the worst compared to the first 3 series. It is obvious that Saw should have been ended with the 3rd series and Saw IV is just a commercial trial to over create stories from nowhere just to try to make another movie. Though the opening of Saw IV was more than 32m over the weekend, I dont expect this movie to generate alot of profits.

  2. Saw IV was the best yet. Very extreme and involving with a great plot that winds and turns around. See it a second and third time to get the full effect of it and what is going to happen in the Saw universe after this installment. Is this the last of Jigsaw? Go see the film and find out yourself. Your test is waiting.

  4. I went to see Saw IV hoping it would be just as good or better than the other 3.. but it wasn’t.
It was still really good, but it doesnt really follow on from the third and at the end leaves you wondering about the order in wich the scenes are..(the begining and the end..)
I won’t give anything away, but I’m sure some of you will agree with me that this does leave you with more questions and not fully understanding it. But as we know or hope that it will make sense by the time Saw 5 comes out that we sit back and wait.
This is just my opinion, I don’t expect you to have the same one.

  5. Can anyone explain the ending because it seems to have passed into two different tenses.

  6. I thought Saw IV was fab, although I did have to come away and think about it before everything made sense. And there were some pointers during the movie as to what is going to happen in Saw VI. For instance the detective who we now believe to be the next Jigsaw may have only been playing a game to save himself or somebody close to him - at the beginning of the film he says he has a child. Also if you watched closely you would have noticed that Jigsaws Ex-Wife was wearing a key on the chain around her neck!

  7. SAW IV was a great movie…and for sawmwone, you most definetly need to watch the movie again, obviously you didnt get it at all.. SAW IV makes complete sense and of course it does not follow up on three because IT IS HAPPENING right with three. Watch it a second time and you definetly will get it. the original saw was the best, then the fourth, and now i cant wait for the fifth and sixth… i wonder how it ends(hello zepp, fading out)…

  8. OK for starters allow me to say that as a huge fan of the Saw series i was infact disapointed by the films ending, the games were, as always, perfect. the twists as unexpected as always and the plot as intricate and uniformed as ever. However, as i mentioned earlier, the ending was frustrating and brought the entire series down, the film goes into details about why jigsay becomes jigsaw and how his mind see’s the people he ’saves.’The ending seems to almost contradict the entire emphasis of the sereies. if the films continue like this one the series will have no more fans. GAME OVER

  9. hey guys… went and watched Saw IV and luved it, but i am still a little confused at one scene. You know where the father is looking for his girl (from the thrid one) he is still trapped in that warehouse and when the FBI cop finds him in the room with his wife and jigsaw and amanda all died, how come jigsaw is still on the bed when he was taken to the morgue?? and wasnt his wife’s head blown off?? was this a hallaucination from him or what?? i am confused… if u can help me out that would be great.. thanks

  10. im pretty sure that if someone doesnt understand that they are thinking way to hard. The movie was awesome and tied everything together. A lot of people dont understand how jigsaw was still in the room in the end with the detective while at the begining was in another location. This is simply because saw 5 has started and the new jigsaw has set up another game with the detective locked in the room at the end of saw 4.

  12. Howdy guys! Ok, I just got home from seeing Saw 4. I loved it! I think it makes sense. Saw 3 and 4 are happening at the same time and the beginning of Saw 4 is actually the end. I got one question. Where’s Jeff’s daughter? Jeff the character from Saw 3 is killed at the end of Saw 4. Jigsaw kidnaps and totures his victims to test them and to change them. Why would Jigsaw kidnap Jeff’s daughter who’s a little girl? It kinda goes against the logic of the series. I still think it’s a worthy sequeal and can’t wait till Saw 5.

  14. Yes, I can see that the FBI agent will be the beginning of his game in Saw 5, but it still doesn’t explain how he swallowed the tape for the detective to find at the morgue (which it looks like he did that in the room that he’s lying in when Saw 4 ends). The beginning of 4 has jigsaw at the morgue, but the in three the father kills jigsaw, so how did jigsaw get from that room, to the morgue and then back in the room with the father still fresh from killing jigsaw?

    Comment by Forrest — November 4, 2007 @ 6:45 pm

  15. i saw it the on halloween and thought it was the best one.
it starts half way through saw 3 as to why you seeht efather running along through the passage ways and his wife jumping out at him. Then it cuts to all the other characters and when you nect see the father he had just killed jigsaw and his wifes head has blown up. thats when he gets shot by the dectective. get it?
saw 5 will be a continuation of this and probally the other detective who turned out to be the bad guy will carry on jigsaws work… however the little girl is still trapped :(

    fuck these films get confusing

  17. OK IM GOING TO START OFF BY SAYING WHAT I AM ABOUT TO SAY WILL RUIN THE FILM FOR ANYONE WHO HASN’T SEEN IT, BUT THERE SEEMS TO BE ALOT OF CONFUSION AS TO WHAT HAPPENED DURING THE FILM SUCH AS WHO DID WHAT, WHY THEY DID IT, AND WHEN EVERYTHING WAS HAPPENING.

Note To Michael: The reason Jigsaw was still in the chair at the time and not in the morgue is because Saw IV is actually going on at the same time as Saw III. The morgue bit shown at the begging of the Saw IV film was actually shown at the end of the film too because the director wanted to confuse fans until the very end to make it harder to guess who the new follower of jigsaw was.

Note to Kristian (and this is a long one):
Moving back to current time, Rigg has followed his clue to the Gideon factory owned by John, with Agent Strahm close behind using information obtained from Jill. As Rigg and Strahm move through the facility, we see Jeff (from Saw III), working his way through the building towards the room where Jigsaw etc are. Strahm follows the noise that Jeff is making, leading him away from Rigg, while Rigg finds a door that leads him to his final test.

Inside the room are Detective Matthews (from Saw II - the dective who was presumed dead and missing for 6 months), Detective Hoffman, and Art Blanc, each involved in his own test. Flashbacks reveal that Matthews has been a prisoner of Jigsaw for six months. Art has been instructed that once the time for the test is up, he can activate a switch which will free them all. Part of the test requires him to give Matthews a revolver with a single bullet. Each subject discovers however, that if someone enters the main door they will trigger another trap which will instantly kill Detective Matthews. An exhausted Rigg lunges at the door hoping in some way to try and save his friend (still not realising that there was a trap set that if he entered the room his friend would die)smashing through it as Matthews shoots him in a vain attempt to stop him setting of the trap. Unfortunately, the trap is still activated and Detective Matthews is killed, his head crushed in between two ice blocks (each about the size of the block he stands on) angled upwards as they swing down on both sides. Rigg shoots Art, believing him to be Jigsaw’s accomplice, fatally wounding him. As a final tape is played, Rigg is told that he has failed his test; his obsession to save others has inadvertently led to their deaths. Rigg had been warned by superiors on at least two occasions not to open unsecured doors, which he did once more causing Matthews death. Had he simply allowed time to run out and not saved them, they would have been safe from harm and released from their traps.

Meanwhile, Strahm still following Jeff, approaches a fridge like door. Before he can enter it the door closes shut with him on the outside. He opens the door and steps into the room. He finds Jeff and the bodies of Lynn, Amanda, and Jigsaw. As Jeff waves his weapon in a threatening manner, demanding to know the location of his daughter, Strahm kills him in defense in an honest belief that he thought him to be a threat. The door to the fridge like room is then closed from the outside sealing a still alive Strahm inside with the bodies of Jigsaw, Jeff, Lynn, and Amanda Young.

Meanwhile, Rigg lies wounded on the floor, Hoffman releases himself from his trap, revealing that ACTUALLY he is involved in the game, a new Jigsaw apprentice. He leaves Rigg to die, stating “Game Over,”. Hoffman then approaches the door Strahm had entered and closes it sealing him inside.

It is then revealed that the events of Saw IV have run concurrently to those of Saw III, with Strahm intercepting Jeff just after the deaths of Jigsaw, Amanda and Doctor Lynn. The autopsy scene that occurred at the beginning of the film is shown again, revealing it to have occurred after the events of the film and not before. As the tape found in Jigsaw’s stomach is played again, Detective Hoffman is told that Jigsaw’s games have only just begun, and he will not walk away untested.

From this, we can presume that Strahm will infact be in the next Saw film as either a main character, or more likely as a new victim, with Detective Hoffman as the leading role.

HOPE THAT CLEARS THINGS UP WITH EVERYONE. YES I DID GET SOME OF THAT INFO OFF WIKI JUST TO SAVE A BIT OF TIME TYPING IT, BUT THE MAJORITY OF IT IS TYPED BY ME AND EDITED. THANKYOU AND GOODNIGHT

  21. okay well I just got out of the movies seeing SAW5 it was great and I understood every piece of it, I know that the stories are running side by side at the same time…but i started thinking and it dosnt seem right that the detective that found the tape in Jigs stomach and listened to it, everything had already happend he was tested by Jig, left the other detectives in the building…he had already committed his acts….but at the end you see him suprised to find a suprise to him by Jig…

  22. saw series is getting confusing for the obvious reason that though new characters have been introduced but they don’t want jigsaw’s charm to lose so they are trying to develop new complications from the already happened incidents so to have their main character(john)……saw4 is more packed with gore, blood and violence having an impact of hostel movies.my only request to the makers is that draw main focus to script with more stunning ends and twists..waiting for saw5

  25. Despite what every one may think. i thought this movie was kind of a waste of money and time. dont get me wrong i enjoyed it but its as if i payed to see the third movie all over again. So really the actually movie of saw IV was only like five minutes long. everything that happened in this movie was at the same time as the third. I think they need to do a GREAT JOB on saw V if they wanna sit saw fans in those seats at the theater. But what do i know im just a kid that wants to see the saw franchise grow; it wont unless they stop making movies like saw IV. What they aught to have done in saw IV is answer some of the questions in the first three movies like where is Dr. Gordon. Why was the tape addressed to Hoffman saying “i told you my work would carry on” if he already knew he was going to carry on jigsaws work. Then top it off with Saw V instead of making saw IV, V, VI they should have just made IV and V. and left it at that.

  27. I believe that in saw 5 detective Strahm gets out of the room were jigsaw died by using the key Amanda had around her neck and then he brings the body back to the morgueand diffenly daw 5 should have Dr Gorden back

  28. no,end of saw4 is actually the end of that sequel not the end of that incident……

  29. i take it we will find out hoffman came 2 b tested by jigsaw?…i think that amanda’s envelope was him saying that he has been chosen 2 take over from john??

will we ever find out what happened to the doctor?? (i know the actor demanded more money but there’s now a big loose end that needs 2 b tied up!!)

    Comment by workstinx — November 19, 2007 @ 5:41 pm

  30. What I dont get is how everything was perfectly orchestrated and what wouldve happened if someone passed the test…
In the other movies it’s pretty clear that if they pass the test they survive and get to carry on their lives, but the movie could go on since no trap is dependent on the other… In this movie they just mixed up all the traps and the odds of everything coming out as planned just seem very slim…
Think about it: In the 3rd movie, when he swallows the tape, he already knows that Jeff is going to kill him, Rigg will get to the crime scene on time, Mathews would kill Rigg and Rigg would kill the attorney? oh and that Hoffman would get to the room just in time to lock dead-Jeff and Strahm in? That would seem like the only way in which the tape couldve been directed to Detective Hoffman, who survived… and he even states that he knows he’s the last one standing when he says “you thought you’d leve untested” or something like that…
If Rigg had gotten to the building 5 minutes later, he wouldve passed the test and the attorney wouldve released Mathews and the other detective, so all 4 wouldve survived and the tape couldn’t be directed the the one detective that survived, Hoffman… Unless he planned to kill Rigg, Mathews and the attorney anyways but that just doesn’t make sense cause that’s not what jigsaw is about… In addition, if Strahm had gotten to the building at another time, he would not have been able to follow Jeff’s noise up to the room where he’s locked… I guess he also assumes Strahm would shoot Jeff or viceversa, cause maybe they couldve seen each other, identified themselves and ran out of there…
I guess that what I’m saying is that for Jigsaw to have directed that final tape to Detective Hoffman knowing he’d be the only survivor of Rigg and Jeff’s tests required Jigsaw having some sort of magic ball which would read the future… It implied that no one would pass their tests, and that’s what I enjoyed about the other movies, you could sit back and think “he couldve survived if he wanted to and the movie could go on”… not in this one though. It just make the movie less “believable”

  32. o.k,the reason jigsaw is in the room at the end is because the morgue scene doesn’t really happen until after all of that,if a 12 year old(me)can under stand saw 4 then id exspect all you guys too, anyway great movie, loved the twist ending, love all the traps,9.5 otta 10,it was good but after seeing saw 1,2,3 i kinda figured out the twist ending before the movie was half way done.THIER IS AND ALWASE WILL BE A TWIST END ING IN SAW.so good movie though not very shocking.

How can two investigations about jigsaw take place simultaneously, and not be aware of each other? Lacks in credability…

  36. ok, after just seein saw 4 last night. I come here for a little more understanding. I did love the movie, but do admit the confusion makes me want to see it again. Obviously the beginning of the movie was not really in cronological order. But I would have to agree with a previous statement. If his body is now in the morgue than at least saw 5 must have played out previously to the morgue seen. The FBI agent is now locked in a room with a dead jeff(by his own hand), amanda, jeff’s wife, and jigsaw. The morgue seen could only have accurred after saw5 plays out(at least to some extent). It’s the only thing that really makes sense. I do appreciate how each new movie helps us understand those before it, so I am not distraught over the fact that jeff’s daughter is still somewhere and doctor gordon has still not shown up..dead or alive. I do realize that I have to watch it again though, just to piece together ocouple points to the movie, now that I am looking for them. I hope the series doesn’t flop..it hasen’t so far, but is almost hanging by a thread.

  37. The Saw movies are the best !! Hoffman is not the new jiigsaw killer even though he believes he is we will probley see in saw 5 him having to do a test to make him the appentance of jigsaw and if he fails which i hope he does then Jigsaw back up appentance will step up. Could probley be his ex wife or Daniel from saw 2 or Doctor Gordon from saw 1. Jeff might not die completly so when Strahm talks to him he’ll know that Jeff daughter is trapped and will go looking for her using the key from around amanda neck

  38. Hi all.Just watched saw 4 for the first time on DVD and thaught it was another awsome saw movie all beit a little complicated and hazy at time.Although this isnt the best of this isnt the best in the series and is a little vague it does make for an awsome saw 5 movie which will be unmissable.more brutal death traps more twistand turns but a do think that it will tie up all the loose ends of saw 4 and 3 and make every1 realise what good movies saw 3 and 4 are. I would also like to make the point to everyone who thaught the last 2 movies where rubbish that there is a perpose for the fast paced plots and loose ends and that is to keep you watching!!

    Comment by Lee — March 7, 2008 @ 5:15 am

  39. The story line for saw 4 is very simple. The begining of the movie is the end, and everything after that happens at the same time as the 3rd movie, exept flashbacks of John making his traps etc. At the end Rigg and the other 2 characters meet up at the same place cause saw 3 and 4 happen the same day and time. At the end, amanda and john die, as well as the woman that blew up. So the detective that said GAME OVER at the end and walked out has helped jigsaw and amda all along. So nothing happend after saw 3 exept the autopsy scene, now what happens in saw 5 i don’t know!
